Patole slams RSS-BJP for exploiting Ram Temple devotees' religious sentiments

Maharashtra Congress leader Nana Patole has launched a sharp attack on the RSS and BJP, accusing them of instrumentalising the devotion of Ram Temple worshippers for political purposes.

Patole's criticism centres on what he characterises as the deliberate exploitation of Hindu religious sentiments by both organisations. The Congress veteran contends that instead of allowing genuine spiritual connection to the Ram Temple remain a matter of personal faith, the RSS-BJP combine has transformed it into a political weapon to mobilise voters and consolidate power.

In his statement, Patole suggests that the two organisations have consistently invoked the Ram Temple narrative during electoral campaigns and political mobilisation drives, thereby blurring the line between religious devotion and partisan politics. He argues that this approach disrespects the authentic faith of millions of devotees who view the temple as a sacred site worthy of reverence beyond political calculations.

The attack reflects the ongoing ideological battle in Indian politics between Congress and the BJP-RSS alliance. Congress has frequently positioned itself as a protector of secular democratic values, while alleging that the BJP and RSS leverage communal and religious themes to consolidate electoral support. Patole's comments align with this broader narrative being pushed by the opposition party across Maharashtra and nationally.

This accusation comes amid Maharashtra's complex political landscape, where the Congress continues to struggle electorally against the dominant BJP machinery. By directly challenging the RSS-BJP's approach to religious matters, Patole is attempting to reframe the political conversation around questions of intent and authenticity in matters of faith.

The Congress party has increasingly relied on such messaging to appeal to secular-minded voters and those uncomfortable with what it describes as the communalisation of politics. Whether such criticisms resonate with voters remains to be seen, particularly in a state where Hindu nationalist politics maintains considerable support.
