Assam Police Seize 670 Kg Ganja At Guwahati Airport
Major drug bust at Guwahati airport, 4 arrested, international link suspected

In a significant crackdown on inter-state drug trafficking, the Assam Police seized 670 kg of ganja from the cargo terminal of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Monday. The seizure was made after staff at the airport's cargo terminal became suspicious while scanning 111 parcels booked for courier, which led to the arrest of four persons allegedly involved in the racket.
The four arrested individuals have been identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Roman, Phalbakstar Parlong, Alvinestar Siem, and Crush Dokhar. According to the police, the consignment had been sourced from the Mairang area in Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district and was transported to Guwahati through Jorabat. The parcels were to be dispatched by courier to several states, including Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana.
The police suspect that the operation is linked to an international supply network, with the main accused, Abu Bakkar Siddique alias Roman, being a resident of Bangladesh. The accused had booked the consignments using the names and addresses of deceased persons, allegedly to avoid detection. One of the arrested persons was working as the driver transporting the consignment.
The investigation, led by DCP (West) Bolin Dewri, revealed that the accused used Indian Post to send the consignment to Guwahati by train and then to other states. A case has been registered at Azara Police Station against the four accused under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The police are continuing their investigation to trace the wider network behind the operation, including those who financed the consignment and others allegedly involved in transporting it through Guwahati. The seizure of 670 kg of ganja is a significant blow to the inter-state drug trafficking network, and the police are working to uncover the entire supply chain.
The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance at airports and other transportation hubs to prevent the smuggling of illicit substances. The police are also working to identify the source of the ganja and the intended recipients, which will help to disrupt the entire network.
In conclusion, the seizure of 670 kg of ganja at the Guwahati airport is a major achievement for the Assam Police, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover the entire network behind the operation. The police are working tirelessly to prevent the smuggling of illicit substances and to bring those involved to justice.
